With the theme โWalk for Courage: End Violence Against Women and Their Children,โ the Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit (GEDIU) of the Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNUNL) officially launched the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) through a solidarity march from the Aurora Community Center to the PNUNL Innovation Hub (InnoHub) grounds.
The event brought together faculty members, student leaders, and community partners in a unified call to promote gender equality, protect human rights, and create safer spaces for women and children. The march served as a powerful expression of courage and collective responsibility in advocating a violence-free community, resonating with the nationwide campaign spearheaded by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).
In her opening message, Dr. Raquel Geronimo, GEDIU Head, underscored that the campaign serves not only as a reminder of the continuing challenges faced by women and children but also as a call to strengthen commitment and collective action toward ending all forms of violence. She also announced that a series of activities and educational initiatives will be implemented throughout the campaign period to deepen awareness and empower the PNU community to take an active role in advocacy and social transformation.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jandy S. Danzalan, Director for Research, Extension, Quality Assurance, and Development (REQAD), highlighted that the โWalk for Courageโ embodies the universityโs shared vision of building a world where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. He encouraged the participants to approach the campaign with purpose, pride, and passion.
The 18-Day Campaign to End VAWC is observed annually from November 25 to December 12 as part of the global effort to eliminate gender-based violence. PNU North Luzonโs participation reaffirms its commitment to advancing gender-responsive education, strengthening inclusivity, and promoting a culture of respect and equality across its academic and community programs.
As the event concluded, participants expressed their solidarity by signing a Commitment Wall, pledging to be advocates of awareness, empathy, and transformative action within their respective communities.
