In celebration of National Womenโs Month, the WOMEnvironment Summit 2025 gathered women leaders at Philippine Normal University North Luzon to champion gender-inclusive environmental action. The event, held in partnership between Philippine Normal University and the Provincial Government of Isabela, aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Gender Equality (SDG 5), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
Ms. Gwendolyn C. Bambalan, DPA, CESO III, Regional Executive Director of DENR Region 02, delivered an inspiring speech on women’s role in transformative environmental solutions. Ms. Johanna Mercy C. Gabriel, Regional Gender and Development Trainer, discussed best practices in gender-inclusive policies, while Joyce N. Cabalonga and Rosemarie T. Zabala led sessions on climate resilience and sustainable development.
The summit also introduced a council of leaders, including representatives from NCIP Isabela, civil society organizations, and PNU students and faculty. Hon. Mary Grace D. Arreola, 3rd District Board Member, underscored the initiativeโs importance, stating, โTogether, we can build a world where gender equality and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.โ
This initiative reflects a multi-sectoral commitment (SDG 17) to fostering inclusive, sustainable solutions through education (SDG 4) and collaboration.
