Third Year Bachelor in Social Science Education received an international award in the recently concluded 2023 RCE Youth Art Challenge: From Waste To Art in the 15-25 years old category conducted by the Global RCE Service Centre at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), in partnership with UNESCO.

This contest provided a motivating platform for young artists to use their creative abilities to promote global resource efficiency, waste reduction, and sustainable consumption and production. The participants were asked to produce artwork that represented their individualized and group initiatives, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12), which is concerned with Responsible Consumption and Production.

A Filipiniana gown they created out of trash bags and candy wrappers serves as inspiration for them to make ecologically responsible decisions, even in the fashion industry. Its carrying message serves as an important reminder to them that moral acts like recycling and material reuse may result in beautiful creations.

The 2023 RCE Youth Art Challenge attracted submissions from across the globe, spanning three age categories (15 years and under, 16-25 years, and 26-35 years), with a total of 212 entries representing 34 different countries. The artworks encompassed a diverse range of mediums, from traditional crafts and paintings to intricate sculptures and digital art.

Batch Mahalaron’s accomplishment truly epitomizes the spirit of dedication and contribution to the betterment of the Social Science Department. Their achievement is a source of immense pride for all of us.

We extend our heartfelt Congratulations and applaud their exceptional talent and commitment to fostering positive change!
