Aiming to enhance the skills and competencies of selected trainers, and ensuring quality education for all, Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNU-NL) and Isabela State University (ISU) co-hosted the Trainers’ Workshop for Parateachers’ Capability Training at the Climate Change Center, Alicia, Isabela, May 15, 2024.

Dr. Agnes S. Reyes, Executive Director and Provost of PNU-NL, presented the statement of purpose, highlighting the significance of the training workshop in empowering trainers to empower parateachers in meeting the unique educational needs of their selected community in Palanan, Isabela.

Following this, Dr. Marinel P. Dayawon, Director for Instruction at ISU, and Dr. Leticia N. Aquino, Dean for Academics and the Hub at PNU-NL, introduced the participants from their respective institutions. This was followed by an introduction of the resource speaker by Dr. Boyet L. Batang, Vice President for Academic Affairs at ISU.

The resource speaker, Mr. Roy T. Layao, Community Development Officer III of NCIP Cauayan Community Service Center focused his discussion on cultural sensitivity of the Agtas and shared his extensive experiences on their culture and traditions.

The workshop proper, led by Dr. Leticia N. Aquino, Dean for Academics, and Dr. Clemente M. Aguinaldo Jr., Associate Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Development at PNU-NL, focused on enhancing teaching strategies, classroom management, and culturally responsive pedagogy through a brainstorming session and presentation of group outputs.

Dr. Madonna C. Gonzales, Director for Administration, Finance, and Planning at PNU-NL, delivered the acknowledgement, recognizing the efforts of all organizers and participants. This initiative underscores the commitment of PNU-NL and ISU to uplift the educational standards in Northern Luzon, particularly among indigenous populations, and highlights the importance of continuous professional development for educators.
